The 1-2 Questions to Expect in Each Key
Wouldn't it be great if you could anticipate the questions you'll likely be asked in each of the areas of the case?We'll here are the 1-2 most common questions that you could be asked in each area. This will greatly help prepare you for what to expect throughout.
Key #1: Structure
- Do you have any questions before we get started? (in case you didn't proactively ask clarifying questions)
- Why don't you take a few moments to lay down an approach?
Key #2: Examining and uncovering
- Where do you want to start in the approach you laid out?
- Why do you want to start there?
Key #3: Identifying the nuggets
- What are your key takeaways?
- Where do you want to go from here? (they will ask you this if you are not proactive in getting to the "now what")
Key #4: Calculating math
- Is the answer you calculated good or bad for the client?
- Why?
Key #5: Generating ideas
- What factors should be considered for (XYZ)? (XYZ could really be anything, based on the case context)
- What are some options the client could consider?
Key #6: Delivering a recommendation
- The client/partner just walked in the room and wants an update on your findings. What would you say?
- Why do you think they should/shouldn't do (XYZ)? (XYZ could really be anything, based on the case context)
Key #7: Communicating effectively
- Why? (also be prepared for a case interviewer to ask you "why")
