Forget about the standard books and peer practice that leads most people to land just below the "high bar"
What if you could stop hoping to get an offer… and start knowing that you will?
What if you could supplement your practice... with something that will literally give you an unfair advantage?
What if could avoid the 2 major mistakes that 90% of candidates do... right at the beginning of the case?
In fact, if you do one of these 2 mistakes, you're likely done with your dream consulting job. If you do not know which they are, you will most certainly do at least one of them.
Hi, I'm Brian, former BCG consultant, project leader, recruiter, office specialist, case interviewer, and founder of passthecase.
I send thousands of emails every month — and at the bottom of most of them, I ask people to reply directly to me. Over the last several years, I’ve read hundreds per week from readers like you.
I hear from a lot of amazing people in my inbox — people who have landed an offer at their dream consulting firm, are traveling to interesting countries, and making a big impact.
Yeah, there’s the occasional nutjob (which I love):
But mostly, it’s normal people sharing their story and looking for a little help.
When I first started getting these emails, I never realized how open people would really be. I’d wake up, open my inbox, and start reading emails…
…about people feeling discouraged about not improving fast enough after reading standard resources like Case In Point and Victor Cheng... and after practicing tens if not hundreds of cases with friends and practice partners in places like PrepLounge.
Funny enough, on the same days I’d get those emails, I’d also get thank-you emails from other people, who’d casually mention that they used my material to land triple offers with McKinsey, Bain, and BCG.
Interesting. Some people were complaining they weren't improving their case performance fast enough …while others were routinely getting offer letters to their dream consulting firm with $25,000-$50,000 signing bonuses.
It was like I had a little window into the personal lives of hundreds of candidates. Lots of people expressed frustration to me on how slowly they felt they were progressing even after doing all the "right" stuff — but some people seemed to progress a whole lot faster than others.
And I became interested in studying what makes the successful people get better, faster… while other people don't improve fast enough.
Ahh, hitting a plateau — one of the most frustrating things people have encountered. You might know people like this... spending hours upon hours practicing cases, and still not noticeably improving quick enough. I know people who’ve been spinning their wheels on the case interview for years.
Look, I could tell you about all the typical things these people do, like how they read Case In Point or Case Interview Secrets, try to get their hands on the best casebooks, and increasingly look to practice with 'Novices' then 'Advanced' and then 'Pro' people on platforms like PrepLounge.
Yet week by week, they start feeling the sense that they may not really pass the case under real-world conditions. How could they? The people they are practicing with weren't actual case interviewers at their target consulting firms.
This leads to a false sense of preparedness for the great majority of people. I found this out the hard way when I got rejected badly from all the top consulting firms as an undergrad after I poured over all the standard interview resources and out-practiced the competition
You see, there are two inconvenient truths about breaking into a top consulting firm.
Inconvenient truth #1: Getting rejected happens to smart people ALL...THE...TIME. I know this well, because as a former case interviewer, I made reject decisions on tons and tons of well-prepared and smart people because a few others "one-upped" them.
Most people are good at the case…and then hit an invisible ceiling and can't figure out how to keep growing. People who get good but never quite make it to great.
Inconvenient truth #2: Only great performance passes the real-world case. There are far, far too many candidates that are good on the case interview. To get an offer with a top firm, you need to be great. Period. You need to learn what "the bar" really looks like.
This is what the many prep books, consulting clubs, and websites fail to teach you. Good is not good enough in this competitive process.
So why do so many people get stuck at just "good" levels of performance?
And how do others seem to keep ramping up their performance until their case interview success is virtually known to them (yet we know they started in the same place we did)?
“Maybe I'm missing something”
I became very interested in figuring out the difference between the people who were emailing me, stuck on getting rejected from their dream firms and languishing for years…
…and the people who seemed to fly by, racking up offer after offer. Often triple MBB offers.
What was the difference? Was it about habits? A better mindset? Were some people just born more ambitious or disciplined than others?
I started emailing back with hundreds of people. I asked my super-successful former colleagues how they made it — painstaking details about how they prepared themselves for the case, and achieved great levels of performance, not merely good levels.
Here’s one thing that surprised me.
Most people would prioritize their time by trying to practice as many cases as they could.
(Notice what I said — MOST. The great majority of people chose the number of cases under their belt as their key performance indicator.
You see, their progression of feeling like a Novice, and then Advanced, and then to Pro, was just based on the absolute number of cases under their belt.
Successful people still practiced cases, however they focused primarily on the quality of both the case and the practice partner.
They spent more time internalizing the feedback, and deeply understanding the critically important nuance of "good" vs. "great" than the time they spent going through the motions of the case itself.
That was one of the key distinctions between the people who plateaued and the people who kept succeeding.
I found this profoundly surprising. Yes, of course everyone gets feedback on their case and seeks to act on it. The successful people, however, studied their feedback so they could learn how to push themselves to great.
And remember, not just any feedback. Feedback provided from a quality partner giving a quality (i.e. life-like) case, who actually knows what the "bar" really looks like.
And the critical difference between "good" vs. "great" is a lot smaller than you think. It's knowing the nuance.
Sure, some people look for ways to improve. What are the usual “solutions” people seek out? For a lot of people, they begin looking for all the standard books and resources and then search through platform sites to find the “right” practice partner…and then obsess practicing many, many cases (Know anyone like this?)
Hey — at least they’re looking for answers. But the heartbreaking thing is that they genuinely believe if they find the “right” resource or hit the "right" number of cases, then all their problems will disappear and they'll be able to land an offer at the consulting firm they’ve wanted for years.
You and I need to know better. We know they’re playing the wrong game entirely.
The honest truth:
- They could get the perfect casebook… and nothing would change
- They could find the perfect practice partner... and nothing would change
- They could do their perfect number of cases… and nothing would change
Most people get stuck and plateau to "good" performance levels.
Meanwhile, the most successful people are quietly playing a completely different game.
The secret skill of Case Interview Success
The President of the Consulting Club I was in (a successful star intern at BCG and now a rockstar VP at a large Fortune 100) told me something I’ll never forget.
“You need to practice perfectly.”
You know those moments when you hear something you know you’ll remember forever? I felt those words vibrate inside my brain. I loved it. I loved the truth in what she was saying - that taking a lot of swings wasn't going to make you better. Instead, what gets you better is the focus on how you swing.
In other words, focusing on quality is what will make you great. Quality case and quality partner and quality feedback. It's that trifecta that will allow you to break into greatness.
This is POWER — the set of deep inner case skills that give winners their edge.
POWER is:
- Knowing what case interview greatness looks and sounds like
- Having the confidence to tackle any type of case
- The focus to know what areas to spend time on — and what to ignore
- And the optimism to know it will all work out…and to have fun doing it!
Most people try to practice as many cases as they possibly can.
But when I talked to successful people, none of them talked about the number of cases they practiced. Not a single one. It wasn't that they had a special number they were keeping secret. They almost didn't care. The absolute number didn't matter.
Instead, they dove right into the insightful feedback they were given about their case performance — from how they diagnosed the areas they needed to focus on, and learned those nuances to get "great" scores in each of the seven areas of the case.
Imagine someone successful you admire.
When you imagine them walking into a room, is their head filled with how much practice they need to feel prepared? If something bad happens to them, do they rush online to practice more for their situation?
Of course not. If you boil down their success, their ability to learn from their mistakes and then adapt - make the difference. This adaptation through feedback outweighs any tactic on earth.
That’s why I want you to focus on what really matters. Forget focusing on a large number of practice cases. Get off the quantity treadmill. If you focus on getting quality feedack, you're in charge.
Jim Rohn once said:
“Don't wish it was easier wish you were better. Don't wish for less problems wish for more skills. Don't wish for less challenge wish for more wisdom.”
I love that. He knew that the world will continue to give us bigger and bigger challenges. Preparing for the case interview and against your intense competition is certainly no exception. Instead of wishing for them to go away, we should build the skills to tackle each and every one of them.
When I look back at my own case interview success, it wasn't from practicing tons of cases. Instead, it was practicing with intention. Practicing perfectly. Learning the wisdom on what great performance looks and sounds like.
I know I can't control the ocean, but I can be a better swimmer. And so can you.
3 differences between POWER and ordinary practice with peers
Look at the striking differences between POWER and ordinary practice you do with your friends and case partners. Which approach do you want to use in your life?
1) ON BREAKING THROUGH FROM GOOD TO GREAT
MOST PEOPLE: "How am I supposed to know if my case partner knows what he or she's really talking about? Their advice sounds good, but I'm not sure if it's right."
PEOPLE WITH POWER: "I know how to push my performance from good to great. I'm supplementing my practice with an experienced case interviewer who knows what he's talking about.
2) ON GETTING AN OUTSTANDING RETURN ON YOUR TIME
MOST PEOPLE: "Finding quality practice partners is time consuming. I'm not sure if I'm going to get a good partner and waste my time.”
PEOPLE WITH POWER: "I practice when and where I want with someone who really knows what they'e talking about. I can see (the paperwork, notes, and math shortcuts) of what "good" vs. "great" performance looks like across all the common case types.
3) ON FEELING INCREDIBLY CONFIDENT
MOST PEOPLE: "I always have this sense of underlying nervousness that I'll get a case type I wasn't prepared for and kind of freak out."
PEOPLE WITH POWER: "I feel confident in handling all the common case types that might get thrown at me, including Profitability and all its common variants, New Market Entry, New Market Launch, Operations, M&A, Growth Strategy, Pricing Strategy, and Competitive Threat.
This is the unspoken, hidden game of the Case Interview that allows winners to keep winning while everyone else — even smart, talented people — routinely get rejected and don't even know why (yes - many firms have a policy of not giving the candidate feedback after they get rejected.)
It took me years of work, research, networking, and hundreds of private coaching sessions with my clients, to discover the 7 deep, inner skills that separate winners from everyone else. The skills that give winners the rare edge we all crave.
Yes, skills. Because case interview mastery can be taught, practiced, and perfected.
How come nobody talks about this? The short answer is: It doesn’t sell. The vast majority of people are looking for tactics like “case interview secrets," the "case in point frameworks," or the tactic of "practice as much as they can.”
But a small group of people don’t want to focus on tactics. They know the one thing in common with all top performers is their case interview mastery.
Most people seek out POWER because they realize that the standard books and standard ways of practicing with friends and peers won't get them to great. Are you sick and tired of:
- Not knowing if you'd really pass the case in the real world?
- Not being sure what feedback to listen to vs. not?
- Wasting your precious time and not seeing your time investment pay off fast enough?
POWER changes everything — it lets you play a completely different game. In fact, instead of just overcoming those problems…
…you’ll discover that you can use POWER to go from good to great.

A new approach to Case Interview Mastery
There are countless casebooks and “experts” out there.
But in my years of reading thousands of emails, speaking to successful friends, and building my own preparation company, I learned the few core things that mattered in differentiating yourself from the intense competition.
They were practical, easy to apply, and extremely powerful.
Best of all, they were FUN.
I don’t know about you, but I LOVE learning about myself, recognizing the patterns, then working to improve them. Sure, it’s work — but it’s amazing to watch yourself change from the inside out.
In this course, I collected the very best tools and methods. You can apply these instantly to your case preparation. Consider this as a "supercharger" supplement for any practice you're already doing.
These tools will help take you from good to great — and even one of these lessons can be worth its weight in gold.
Put them together and you have a real case interviewer's perspective on examining your own skills and performance…and a roadmap for optimizing, improving, and skipping ahead. There’s nothing else like it.
POWER is for you if…
- You're open to admitting that the way you've practiced in the past may need to change if you want to achieve higher levels of case interview success
- You want to stop blindly trying to practice as much as you possibly can and start emulating proven Top Performers
- You're focused on the long term — and you understand there will always be ups-and-downs, but that you can make HUGE gains by acting smarter
- You've tried the "conventional advice" about reading the standard books and resources and have practiced with peers, but they haven't made you "great" yet
- You've gotten as far as you can on your own, but you know "what got you here won't get you there" — and you're open to getting an extra push to cross the bridge to success
"What if I'm pressed for time?"
Don't worry about falling behind — each video is distilled down to just the "bite-sized" essentials and includes specific examples so you can spend your time taking action instead of reviewing tons of content
POWER also comes with lifetime access so you can take a break from the material if you'll be out of town, on vacation, or just get swamped for a few days. You'll have this resource for life. It will always be there when you're ready.
"I don't want this to become yet another thing on my to-do list…"
The last thing we need is another thing to juggle. POWER isn't another set of to-dos you’ll have to force yourself to find extra time for..
POWER is a condensed, at-your-own-pace, transformational program that will show you how to develop deep core case interview skills and the peak performance that goes with it.
I recommend doing at least 1 POWER case a week for maximum benefit. You can even view and practice on your phone — whatever's easiest for you. 1 POWER case per week is my guideline, but because it comes with lifetime access, you can go faster or slower if you want.
"How is POWER different than LOMS or other casebooks, practice cases?"
In short, POWER is focused on seven key inner skills: structure, examination, investigation, math shortcuts, ideation, recommendation, and communication. POWER simulates real-world case interviews and then reviews your habits that drive case interview success. POWER dives deep into how to avoid just performing "good" which most often leads candidates to get rejected (remember: the bar is higher than you think). Other resources are often too cookie-cutter, templated, canned, outdated, and just leave you at "good."
"How long will this course take?"
POWER is complete set of TEN real-world cases. Each video is short and focused. I recommend doing one per week, and with lifetime access you can revisit them whenever you like.
If you're ready, you can learn the secret to unshakable case interview confidence so you can calmly, consistently, and successfully work toward knowing you'll get an offer. And from now on, whenever you're feeling stuck in a rut or overwhelmed, you'll have an ally with you for the rest of your life.

“I had bought this program within minutes of reading the email … Guys, buy this program. It’s like those great books which we keep going back to years later to seek advice. You will be glad you did it.”
“I felt like I was hitting a plateau with my case interview performance and was having a lot of difficulty figuring out how to keep pushing through to the next level. The tools I learned from POWER have been invaluable in helping me identify my mental blocks and places of stagnation.”
“One lesson has had a profound and instant impact on my performance. It was the lesson where Brian talked about the math shortcuts. Instead of my calculations taking 2-3 minutes, they now only take me 20-30 seconds!”
“I tried for a very long time to find really great practice partners and had plenty of struggles with it. With the POWER program, I get to practice with a former case interviewer at my fingertips.”
“Yesterday, I got handed an exhibit that was incredibly dense. I remembered the investigation module where Brian talked about the HTW principle. Afterwards, the case interviewer even mentioned how I synthesized that exhibit a lot more quickly than other people he had seen that day.”
“POWER made me realize that it is normal to be surprised how high the bar really is. It’s knowing the nuance of “good” vs. “great” that makes the difference. … I remember what part of the case I’m at when I practice and have in my head those nuanced things. It’s actually fun, and I’ve gained a reputation for saying insightful things.”
“I’m progressing faster, and more importantly, spending my time a lot better. By supplementing my practice with POWER I have more time for other high priority things too.”
“I really love the concept of the “good” versus “great” checklists on each and every case. It has removed a lot of stress for me and enabled me to focus more clearly on a few things that I need to work on.”
Some people choose to be stuck.
Others choose POWER.
We spend most of our lives going through our toughest challenges alone.
We see others’ successes and wonder how they did it.
We feel guilty about the speed of our own progress.
We resign ourselves to our innate skills, never understanding that they are "skills" that can be systematically improved.
And we settle for the slight progress we make, no matter how slow!
Worst of all, we rarely share our struggles…since we're "supposed" to know how to pass the case after reading all these "standard" resources and practicing with peers (right?).
What I've learned is we don't have to struggle through these challenges. In fact, if we JUST got help on the biggest 1-2 sticking points in our cases, we could soar by leaps and bounds.
Most people go years chasing that "special" number of cases they want to have under their belt, become frustrated, and even give up. Think about it — that's YEARS and YEARS of frustration.
How many people do you know who don't really seek out quality, insightful feedback… even though they claim they want to break into a top tier consulting firm?
How many people do we know who have 40, 50, even 100+ cases under their belt, yet have just good (not great) case interview skills?
Now, fast forward in your own life: What if you did nothing differently today…and ended up like them tomorrow?
Top Performers recognize the importance of practice, but they know that it's the quality of the feedback they receive and their intent to take action on that feedback that's the real key to success.
POWER provides the ultimate leverage in finding case interview success.
You don't have to do this alone. I went through the painstaking process of discovering, distilling, and teaching these seven essential components of mastering the case interview game. They've helped me have many great years at BCG, and I'd like to share the same with you.
These aren't one-time techniques you'll use this week or next month. In fact, these aren’t “techniques” at all.
These are the deep inner case skills embodied by everyone who has “won” the case interview game. So it's natural that you have lifetime access to this course — since I expect you'll refer back to this now, even 5 years from now to keep your consulting toolkit sharp no matter which firm you land with.
I created POWER as your "secret playbook" to improve your confidence, find your focus, develop your skills, and feel optimistic about your success. You don't have to tell anyone you joined the program. They'll just notice your quiet confidence, the new way you carry yourself, and — when times get stressful — how calm you are.
Nobody can ever take those away from you.
Let's take this journey together.
A year from now, you're going to be a year older. What are you going to do?
